ingredients
- 4 cups apple cider or 4 cups juice
- 5 whole cloves
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 2 whole star anise pods
- 1⁄2 teaspoon whole all-spice berries
- 1⁄2 teaspoon black peppercorns
- 2 (750 ml) bottles dry red wine, such as Merlot
- 2 cups port wine or 2 cups apple brandy
- 2 navel oranges, thinly sliced
- 3 small apples, cored and sliced
- 1⁄2 cup fresh cranberries
directions
- Add the apple cider, cloves, cinnamon, star anise, all-spice and peppercorns to the inner bowl of an 8-quart or larger Instant Pot. Lock the lid and make sure the valve is set to seal. Cook on high pressure for 3 minutes. Allow the pressure to naturally release for 10 minutes before manually releasing any residual steam inside.
- Carefully open the lid and strain out the spices with a small fine mesh sieve. Stir in the wine, port or brandy, orange slices, apple slices and cranberries. Set the pressure cooker to sauté on low, place the glass lid on and cook, stirring often, until warmed through and just barely simmering, about 15 minutes. You can serve immediately or set the warming button to keep warm until ready to serve.
