Questions & Replies

  1. This recipe is missing 3 important ingredients: 1 finely chopped piece of celery and finely chopped slice of onion (both can be subbed with powdered versions) and the best part::: a buttery breadcrumb or chunks of bread topping that bakes to a slightly crispy, melty goodness - my family recipe calls for cubed pieces of bread that you drop into a dish with a pre melted half to full stick of butter (depending on how big the chunks are) letting them absorb it and then you pour them out and spread them across the top of the casserole but since it was written pre-sliced bread we use 3 slices and compress them down slightly to keep them together but it's not even a big deal if they fall apart tbh. It fits well in a 1 qt dish. Hope these suggestions helped

  1. This is the recipe I use all the time and my family love it. When you are short on time this is a great way to fill up the kids. I usually add 2 cans of soup and 1 can of tuna. It even tastes good with grated cheese mixed in too. I did not have this written down just remembered it in my head. Thanks for posting it.

  2. This was good. I followed the directions exactly but thought it was missing something. So added cheddar cheese, salt and pepper. Was a nice quick and easy dinner.

  3. Never use canned peas! Frozen or fresh peas is the only way to go. Some extra chopped, sauteed mushrooms and/or onions are also great additions. Experiment with cheese additions if you like. Top this casserole with seasoned bread crumbs tossed in melted butter, pop under broiler for a minute to brown if it isn't toasted enough after baking.

  4. Good basic recipe, but I did add some shredded swiss cheese, and it's blasphemy in our house not to top a tuna casserole with crushed potato chips! Just like mom made it.

  5. Simple and basic--also delicious. Only addition, coarse black pepper. Comfort food.
